Short Summary of Project
Introducing primary students to the magic of Shakespeare through creative self-expression using drama and visual art in partnership with Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan.
The entire project will culminate in a display of the visual artwork at the Mendel Art Gallery July 3- August 19 and at Centre Galleries from May 27 – July 7, 2013. Prior to that every 6 weeks a new display of completed artwork will be put up at the Saskatoon Airport in our permanent display space that we have there.
The Mendel Art Gallery will be using the exhibition of Georges Vanier school artwork as a focus for their family programming of one of their Something on Sunday’s in the summer.
The culminating event for the drama and dance portion of the project will be the production of a Shakespeare play and a sword dance at the Frances Morrison Library theatre in early May. The play will be directed by our drama teacher and Mark von Eschen will coach us on how to improve the play and how to get children to interpret Shakespeare’s work. His vast knowledge of Shakespeare will be an asset to the team. Monique Martin the visual arts instructor also has a background in theatre so will assist in the production.
